Commercial cold rooms are one of the most important requirements for companies that produce and preserve fresh food and chemical products. A cold room is a system that cools a commercial product and humidifies the air in commercial facilities.
Thanks to the commercial cold rooms, companies continue their work without loss. The industrial cold room operates by steam compression or air pressure (absorption) cycle to enable cooling. Devices with cooling energy between 1 ton and 1000 tons are used to keep the products fresh and natural.

There are three types of cold rooms used in commercial activities:

  • Water
  • Evaporative condensing chiller.

There are 4 sub-types of cold rooms:

  • Reciprocating
  • Centrifugal
  • Screw
  • Absorption chiller.

The first three of these are powered by electric motors. Absorption chiller is one of the mechanical devices working with steam or gas turbines. Absorption chiller are driven by a heat source such as steam. They do not use electronic moving parts.

There are four different parts in cold rooms: Evaporator, compressor, condenser, expansion valve. The evaporators in the cooler operate at low pressure and at a lower temperature than the condenser.

Compressor Types in Cold Rooms

Commercial colder rooms have the following compressors:

  • Piston compressor: The piston compressor uses pistons driven by the crankshaft. It is preferred for conveying small amounts of cooling liquid at very high pressures. These devices can carry dual voltage, can work from 3 to 60 horsepower. Furthermore, they are generally semi-hermetic.
  • Centrifugal compressors: These devices including less moving parts are often preferred by the enterprises. It is quite good in terms of energy saving. They stand out with their high cooling power. They are suitable for high-volume ventilation fans, cooling compartments and air circulation systems. It works by using the centrifugal force applied to an air mass for the compaction process. Its capacity ranges from 60 to hundreds of tons.
  • Screw compressor: The screw compressor, which is mounted on the fixed body, has two screws which are male and female. As the rotors rotate, the gas is compressed by direct volume reduction between the two rotors. They are also in the category of semi-hermetic sealed compressors. It carries dual voltage and operates in the range of 40-1000 horsepower. To accomplish the compression, it uses a single rotary screw passing through 2star wheels. They also have single-screw compressors.
